What people ask from the truck at the cattle guard. Answered from the saddle, without stopping.
- Where on the ranch is the office?
- The fence line on the east side. Follow it until you stop believing it is an office. That is the spot.
- What does forty-one dollars get me?
- A name on a state form and a fence post to nail things to. The form is the product. The post is the address.
- Is anybody at the fence?
- Somebody rides it in spring. The rest of the year the fence is on its own, and so is the mail.
- How does mail get handled?
- It is nailed to the post and read by the weather. We collect what the weather leaves.
- What if the company is sued?
- The process server drives to the cattle guard, finds a post, and applies the state's rule for a company with nobody home. That rule is on the Wyoming page, which is closer than the post.

- Why is the ranch in Wyoming only?
- The ranch is in Wyoming. Buying ground in another state is how ranchers lose ranches. We kept ours.
- What is the difference between you and the ranch hand outfit?
- Twenty-seven dollars and ownership. They ride the fence. We own it. The nothing on either side is identical.
- Can I see the ranch?
- You can see the fence from the county road. That is the ranch, for our purposes.
- What is the most the ranch would ever pay out?
- The fees from the three months before the trouble, which is $10.25. Out here that is a roll of wire.
- Can you drop me?
- At any time, for any reason or none, without notice and without refund. Same as a hand in winter.
- Does the price go up in a dry year?
- The price is forty-one in every year. Dry years are why we do not have a building.
- Is the fence in good repair?
- It is a fence. It is in the repair a fence is in. Some of it is still standing and that is the office.
